The architecture of the indoor pool, with its 25-metre basin, five lanes and a partial moving floor, was designed by 4a Architekten from Stuttgart. Blumer Lehmann provided the modules, components and timber construction expertise. The full-featured temporary pool can be set up in a short time and dismantled again after use, before being transported and reassembled elsewhere. Modular timber construction is central to the concept of the mobile indoor pool. Some 28 modules on the ground floor and 18 on the upper floor make up the entrance area and common areas, changing rooms, technical and sanitary rooms. The modules are equipped with the interior finishings, furniture and swimming pool technology at the factory. The ceilings and installations are also largely prefabricated and fitted out in the factory, as is the grey-painted larch wood facade. The load-bearing hall structure will be erected as an element construction. The cross-laminated timber roof elements are delivered ready for assembly and connected on site.
All connections in modular and element construction – from screw joints to waterproof seals – have been designed so that they can be detached again. This requires precision in prefabrication, well thought-out, detailed solutions for interior finishing and building technology, and maximum coordination between statics, technology and assembly. This is especially important because the statics and load assumptions have to work reliably not just for one, but for multiple locations.
