Temporary school with artistic facade

The modular timber construction of this temporary building for the cantonal school in Uetikon am See immediately catches the eye. For the facade, the artist Vreni Spieser designed a unique geometric pattern in grey and white. Intended to be used for the next 10 years, the building will provide teachers and pupils with an outstanding learning environment. The wooden modules can subsequently be used elsewhere for another 20 years.

The temporary school consists of two three-storey buildings connected by an overpass for each storey. All in all, the 30 classrooms can accommodate up to 500 pupils. In addition to the regular classrooms, the building houses ten bespoke rooms for biology, chemistry and music lectures along with spaces for lunch, recreation and the school’s management team. Although the structure is temporary, it complies with the well-established Minergie standard.
