A classroom with the lions at Walter Zoo

With the building of the new, large animal enclosure, the lions at the Abenteuerland Walter Zoo in Gossau have received a spacious outdoor and indoor facility. The building designed by Huser Schnell Architekten houses not only the lions. A lodge provides room for a variety of uses – as a class room, for example.

Working closely with the client, we worked out the details for the timber construction. This process focussed on a high level of functionality for the building. It contains a kiosk, a comfortable panoramic terrace in larch, a storage room and a zoo school. The comfortable classroom above the indoor lion’s den is available for a few hours or days to classes and other curious groups as an extracurricular space for learning.
