Prefabricated timber construction and the sponge city principle

The residential complex with three five-storey buildings offers 83 comfortable apartments with 2.5 to 4.5 rooms. Designed by Hornberger Architekten and constructed by Rhomberg Bau AG, the development is entirely focused on sustainability. The prefabricated timber construction with cross-laminated timber ceilings and roofs shortens construction time thanks to prefabricated structural elements and creates a healthy indoor climate.

Facade design

The uniform vertical facade of the three buildings is made of spruce/fir formwork and is treated with a mud-based paint that allows the wood to absorb and release moisture.

Sustainable energy supply

A geothermal probe, heat pump and photovoltaic system provide renewable energy for heating and hot water. The buildings will be constructed according to the certified SNBS Gold energy standard for sustainable building construction.

Sponge city principle

The sponge city principle is entirely geared towards collecting and storing rainwater outdoors. It mitigates the impact of heatwaves and flooding and improves the water cycle and air quality.
