Sion winter services expanded and modernised

In the autumn of 2020, the canton of Valais upgraded its existing salt storage depot into a full winter services base by integrating additional silo, conveyor and brine facilities. This allows the surrounding streets in the canton to be serviced smoothly and efficiently.

BL Silobau AG delivered this advanced complete solution within six months. The existing storage depot was supplemented with a timber silo, a conveyor system with a conveying rate of 25 t/h and a brine facility with a 30 m3 storage container and ‘Quanto 24’ brine generator.

With its 400 m3 capacity, the salt silo in larch wood increases the existing salt storage capacity and allows efficient management of the new facilities. The modular conveyor system installed as part of this now feeds salt straight to the silo from the storage depot. Its integrated salt manager has a weighing system to ensure a reliable fill process and prevent the silo from overfilling.

For brine used in winter services, we also installed a brine facility with a brine generator and storage tank. The brine is produced by taking the salt straight from the silo, mixing it with water in the generator and then storing it in the GRP tank. Vehicles are also now filled with brine under the silo using a direct supply pipe.
