Classrooms and integrated sports hall from a single source

The extension of the listed Humboldt-Gymnasium in Cologne includes a three-storey classroom in a modular timber construction and an adjoining single-storey sports hall in a prefabricated timber construction. As full-service contractor, Blumer Lehmann is responsible for the construction project, from the planning of the system to the production of the modules and the complete assembly.

The new building blends sensitively into the existing urban structure and incorporates the materiality and scale of the existing building through a high-quality clinker facade.

The buildings were constructed as prefabricated modular constructions. In addition to flexible classrooms with learning forums, specialist rooms and barrier-free access, a functionally optimised sports hall with separate access and modern ancillary areas was created. The wooden surfaces in the interiors create a healthy learning and indoor climate.

The sustainable timber construction, the high degree of in-house prefabrication and the optimised organisation of space enable a durable, resource-conserving and cost-effective school building solution in an urban context.
