School extension in prefabricated timber construction – phases 1 and 2

The existing, listed primary school building is a distinctive feature of the complex with its striking architecture. The new four-storey building incorporates these qualities and has been part of the school complex since August 2025. The school building features an entrance area with an adjoining daycare centre, corridors designed as learning landscapes, classrooms with natural light and covered learning balconies. The facade is designed with wood and metal mesh.

The prefabricated timber construction with a regular grid pattern enables efficient project implementation and flexible use of space. Educationally meaningful adjustments can be made to the space without affecting the statics or the façade. For example, the space of a single classroom can be used to accommodate four group rooms or two large group rooms. The building technology includes a geothermal probe field for heat generation, mechanical ventilation supplemented with composite fans and a photovoltaic system on the roof. The new building is Minergie A certified and largely meets the Minergie ECO standard. It is notable for its optimised daylight conditions, high sound insulation and low-pollutant materials.
