Living between the stages of family life and retirement

The ‘Wohnen im Alter’ association launched a housing project for people aged 55 and over in the Büel district of Gossau, covering an area of around 4600 m2. The three residential buildings – designed by Daniel Cavelti Architektur AG – comprise a total of 34 apartments with 2.5 to 3.5 rooms. The basement level of the three residential buildings was built using conventional concrete construction methods. The four storeys above are built in timber.

The communal housing project with small individual living spaces and generously planned communal spaces is intended to bridge the gap between independent living and living in a nursing home. The high-quality rental apartments are designed for the elderly, and the entire project is future-oriented and sustainable. The inner courtyard at the centre of the development, a large common room designed as a ‘living room with kitchen facilities for all’ and the roof garden will be used communally and provide space for people to meet and interact.
