Sustainable additional storey

The conversion of this detached house demonstrates how it is possible to extend a property in the city and in a confined space. In line with urban densification and taking the local cityscape into consideration, the detached house in the city of St. Gallen gained an additional storey with timber element construction. As general contractor, we designed and implemented the conversion in 1.5 years.

Following the conversion, the client has a total gross floor area of 313 m2 and significantly more space at its disposal. The additional storey contains two rooms, a dressing room and a bathroom. Our project team designed and built the extension on top of the existing solid construction. With a facade made of pre-aged Nordic spruce with acoustic panelling, the building complies with the requirements for the preservation of the cityscape stipulated by the city of St. Gallen. The energy supply is provided via a geothermal pump.
