New coworking space at the Switzerland Innovation Park

Based on the designs of Dario Wohler Architekten, Blumer Lehmann has transformed a former fire station on the site of a former airfield and today’s Switzerland Innovation Park into ‘Büro Züri Innovationspark’. Start-ups, spin-offs and young companies are given the opportunity to use the modern infrastructure there free of charge for at least a year. There are 16 workstations available.

The new workplace for young companies is exemplary in terms of sustainability in both construction and operation. The development is therefore fully in line with the sustainable development goals of Zurich Innovation Park. 

The building’s interior renovation was carried out entirely in timber. The new roof trusses, the roof elements, outer walls and built-in suspended ceiling were constructed independently of the existing exterior walls. Perforated acoustic ceilings made of three-layer spruce panels were installed to suit the intended use. The outer walls were rebuilt and insulated on the inside of the existing solid walls. Within just a few days, the prefabricated timber elements had been installed together with other components made of Swiss wood and now provide comfortable indoor conditions in the newly created coworking space. The sustainability of the timber construction is matched in the use of recycled concrete, as well as the energy generated by the photovoltaic system on the roof. The former fire station has a floor area of around 200 m2 and now meets the Minergie Eco standard thanks to being renovated.
