Due to the optimised construction time on site and the sustainable, renewable material wood, the decision was made to opt for a modular timber construction. CERN considers building 3195 to be a pilot project for its office buildings in terms of timber and modular construction.
Both floors of the two-storey building house meeting rooms, workshops, offices and open spaces as well as toilets, a technical room and a cleaning room. On the upper floor there is also a common room, the management office and a printing room. Dark linoleum was used for the flooring, while the walls are painted white. The ceilings were clad with Heradesign acoustic panels for good noise absorption.
The modular office building complies with the Geneva THPE standard and is connected to the CERN district heating system. The closed, vertical facade consists of rough-cut and pre-greyed slats with tongue and groove.
