A timber construction high-rise

The two lower floors and the stairs are made of concrete. On the third floor, an 8.5 m high truss of fish-bellied girders and straight beams as well as 43 columns 32 m in length form an imposing supporting structure spanning a length of 36 m. An 8.5 m high truss in the shape of a fish-bellied girder spans a length of 36 m. In addition, there are 43 columns in the outer wall with a length of 32.4 m.

Constructive challenges

The large dimensions of this timber construction placed special demands on planning, logistics and assembly. The impressive components were precisely prefabricated from laminated timber in our factory at our headquarters and at partner companies and assembled precisely on site. The 4th and 5th floors will be equipped with CLT ceilings.

Logistical peculiarities

The limited storage space on site within a busy traffic loop on the banks of the Rhine called for carefully planned construction logistics. Fire protection, earthquake safety and high wind loads at a height of 50 m also placed additional structural demands on the timber construction. At a height of 54 m, the cylindrical building falls into the high-rise category.
