Extended from one to two storeys at short notice

There was an urgent need for more space at the Tägelmoos school complex in Winterthur. A single-storey timber modular construction from the Modular-W programme had already been planned; a second storey was then approved and incorporated into the plans at short notice. As a result, from the 2023/2024 school year onwards, three more classrooms and five more group rooms were available than originally planned.

As with the Langwiesen, Wülflingerstrasse and Talhof schools, the second generation of the ‘Modular W’ model was also used at Tägelmoos. Since 2021, the school building programme designed by Bauart Architekten has been providing high-quality school space in the city of Winterthur that is tailored to needs, delivered quickly and flexibly, and can be relocated once it is no longer required. Blumer Lehmann is implementing the modular timber constructions in line with the requirements at the various locations. Construction work began in January 2023, and the modular construction was ready for occupancy in time for the start of the new school year in August. Following the last-minute change to the building’s design, from one storey to two storeys, Blumer Lehmann adjusted the production of the timber modules accordingly, so that both storeys could be installed on site at the same time. The timber modules are prefabricated in the factory and are extensively fitted with electrical and technical systems, along with many interior design elements. The basic modules measure 7.2 m x 3.6 m. This ratio of 2:1 allows the modules to be arranged flexibly – up to three storeys high.

The school building meets the Minergie-P-Eco standard and the classrooms fulfil current requirements. The two-storey modular timber construction has a total of five classrooms, nine group rooms, a staff room and other necessary additional rooms.

The two-storey modular timber construction is part of the Tägelmoos school complex.

Thanks to its regular shape and simple facade design, the two-storey modular timber construction blends in harmoniously with the Tägelmoos school complex.
