Every building in the Vögelinsegg residential complex has its own character and blends in well with the hilly Appenzell landscape. The three multi-storey timber structures grouped around a central courtyard provide space for 29 owner-occupied apartments with 2½ to 6½ rooms and conform to the latest development standard. The client prioritised the use of regional resources, meaning Swiss timber was the preferred material used for construction. Even the stairwells (including the lift shafts) are built entirely from wood. More than 1,400 m³ of timber was used during construction. The buildings are impressive not only due to their appearance, but also because the building services engineering meets the latest standards. As a result, the buildings comply with the requirements of the Minergie P label. This is achieved through the highly efficient insulation of the building shell, large-scale heat accumulators, solar panels and connection to the local heating network.
