In parallel with the renovation of the ice pavilion from 1905, two stands were built adjacent to the 5-star Hotel Kulm in St. Moritz. The covered grandstand and smaller set of stands were built directly next to the ice rink of the 5-star hotel. Stands? Or pavilions? According to architects Foster + Partners, the structures are multi-functional and therefore both. The site hosts cultural events such as concerts as well as sporting events such as the Alpine Ski World Championships in February 2017.
The covered, elaborate stand with a lamella structure and cantilever beams also holds the roof of the renovated ice pavilion, which is now used as the country club of the Hotel Kulm. Blumer Lehmann was responsible for the detailed development and technical planning of the timber construction work. We also produced the timber components for both stands. The assembly of the grandstand was completed by local timber construction firms and closely accompanied by our project manager.
