Conversion with a new timber facade gives the shopping centre a fresh look

Built in 1999 with a floor space of around 2,600 m2, the four-storey Coop Super Center had reached an age where radical upgrading and modernisation was required. We were tasked with the planning, production and erection of the facade. This also involved constructing a new substructure as well as insulating and cladding the facade.

In addition to a new shop concept and restaurant, the renovation also included upgrading the building shell and its projecting roof. Given the deep commitment to sustainability on the part of Coop as the client, the building was certified to Minergie standard and given a timber facade. The new facade cladding in pre-greyed Douglas fir was installed vertically and gives the Coop shopping centre a fresh, modern appearance. The 3,500 m2 of timber were already preassembled by us into finished facade elements as part of the production process, which enabled implementation on the construction site to run smoothly. This allowed the shopping centre to remain open throughout the entire conversion phase and the four stages of renovation work.
